Helen Beard's It's Her Factory: The Private View

Last Friday night’s Private View for It’s Her Factory - Helen Beard’s largest solo-exhibition to date – was a vibrant occasion. The show celebrates Beard’s signature graphic depictions of sexual acts and relationships through varied use of bright, bold colours. The combination of scale, colour and content confront audiences, forcing them to engage with notions of female pleasure and sexual empowerment.

Having worked previously in the film industry as a freelance wardrobe stylist and assistant art director, Helen continued her art practice experimenting with various mediums including paint, collage and needlepoint. It’s Her Factory includes Helen’s first sculptural piece, I Have Made My Bed, and I Will Lie in it (2019). The vibrating sculpture, composed of the artist’s collection of vintage vibrators, examines contemporary portrayals of sexuality.

The gallery was filled by over 500 guests, who brought an energetic and emotive atmosphere that perfectly complemented the vibrancy of Beard’s show. Guests were able to enjoy the company of the artist herself, as they flowed throughout the gallery sipping on three delicious cocktails by Rémy Martin, Mount Gay and Port Charlotte.

An evening enjoyed with...

It’s Her Factory featured a Rémy Grand Tonic cocktail, a signature cocktail with Rémy Martin VSOP Cognac, tonic water and a fresh wedge of lemon. Rémy Martin VSOP is composed of eaux-de-vie coming exclusively from the vineyards of Cognac. The cocktails served at Friday’s Private View embodied the perfect harmony of powerful and elegant aromas and flavours.

Also available, The Bajan Buck – a deliciously refreshing combination of Mount Gay Black Barrel, ginger ale and a twist of an orange slice. Mount Gay Black Barrel is made from single column and double pot distilled rum.

The third cocktail, the Port Charlotte 10 from the Bruichladdich distillery on the Rhinns of the isle Islay in Scotl and, was served neat throughout the event. A whisky with character, Port Charlotte 10 transcends the usual single malt whiskey.
