Dylan Gebbia Richards at Unit London
Gaining influence from his surroundings, such as the unique geology and meteorology of his hometown, Dylan Gebbia Richards is an artist obsessed with change and evolution of shapes within the natural world.
Nature plays an integral part in Gebbia Richards' work – used as a basis for juxtaposition to deliver a transcendent effect on the viewer. Scale, colour and form are used to create an inviting, synthetic environment in which the organic is shrouded in an artificial cover.
Gebbia Richards' work is driven by a constant desire for discovery, a motivation that is visible in the pieces he produces and his practice which lends itself to his scientific background. Gebbia Richard's artistic process is based on combining broad experimentation and focused skilled refinement, which involves melting paraffin wax and combining it with pigments to form a textured landscape.
Gebbia Richards attended Bates college in Maine, reading Environmental Studies, before realising that his passion lay within creating physical manifestations of his academic pursuits. It was at the University of Colorado Boulder where he directed his attention full time to his artistic practice.
Gebbia Richards has showcased extensively in Colorado, with exhibitions including the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver International Airport and the David B. Smith Gallery. Last summer he was showcased in a group exhibition with Georgia O’Keeffe at the Crystal Bridges Museum, Arkansas. Gebbia Richards' work has also been featured in our summer group show, Looking For U, an exhibition exploring communication and identity in the digital world.
